Project Overview

Modern retail architecture demands more than structure—it needs identity. The lighting of Opal Shopping Center, a major retail hub in northwest Tehran, embodies this philosophy. Designed by master lighting artist Hassan Bahadori and executed by RGE Lighting Design, the project turns a robust architectural shell into a glowing beacon of commerce, community, and innovation.

Project Description

Set against the scenic southern slopes of the Alborz Mountains, the Opal Shopping Center spans 7,216 square meters with 14 commercial floors and over 1,800 dedicated parking spaces across nine levels. Its structure is entirely built with a bolted steel frame—a rare and celebrated engineering feat in the region—offering exceptional resilience against seismic activity.

The lighting concept developed by Hassan Bahadori aimed to complement this bold architectural character with visual clarity and refined elegance. The design sought to accentuate the building’s form with light that guides and welcomes—without overwhelming.

Working closely with RGE, a custom lighting system was integrated seamlessly into the façade, emphasizing linear elements and entry points while respecting the modern minimalism of the building. The result: a crisp, sophisticated nighttime presence that enhances both aesthetics and navigability, drawing attention to the center as a cultural and commercial anchor in the city.
